The impact and legacy of the First World War on our neighbourhood in York <br/><br/>This project aims to explore, share and understand our WW1 heritage, within our local community: the Clementhorpe, South Bank and Nunnery Lane districts of York. Our Local History Group and other volunteers will develop skills in historical research, creating activities and events to engage with a range of local organisations, especially those involving cross-generations, older residents and young people. Activity based on historical research by local people within the community may result in interpretations that challenge views found in popular culture and the mass media. We will focus on human stories and use local research to bring these to life, exploring how we can use them to offer more complex and nuanced views of the War, and how it has influenced children and families in subsequent generations. Letters of support have been received from schools, the British Association for Local History and Public Engagement Centres.
